Then I had an architect looking at the pass-thru and he pointed out that, to make that pass-thru someone had cut a major post in the wall. So looks like it went like this:
1) The house was built
2) Someone cut a serious hole in the wall
3) Arthur came along and closed up the pass-thru, reinforced it and left a note
4) I came along and tore it all out again.
Net result: I try not to invite too many people into the room above this at one time.
