That's me way down there, you're looking from the 3rd floor to the basement, where the chimney used to be.

So far this was my least favorite part of the job. Good thing I had a rope.

Didn't I do a great job patching the roof (where the chimney used to be)?
Second floor is looking much better.

Hey, what's holding the ceiling up??

Over on the right you can see an archway-- it had a note in the wall from a guy, Arthur,
in 1957 saying "Do something right the first time and you'll save yourself
a lot of time." Of course, if they'd done the job right, I wouldn't have found the note.

Then I had an architect looking at the pass-thru and he pointed out that, to make that pass-thru someone had cut a major post in the wall. So looks like it went like this:

1) The house was built
2) Someone cut a serious hole in the wall
3) Arthur came along and closed up the pass-thru, reinforced it and left a note
4) I came along and tore it all out again.

Net result: I try not to invite too many people into the room above this at one time.

This is what progress looks like!

This is what the house looks like when all the plaster is gone-- all ten tons
of it. Found some interesting things in the walls-- two worn shoes over a window, old books and lots of pinecones. Indepenedently a friend told me that they would do this to keep the evil spirits out, so I put the shoes back.
And for those of you who see a ghostly image in this or other pictures, there's just a lot of dust floating around.
This is one of the guys who's been helping me.
Good guy but so far he's gotten lost 3 times coming to the place
and stepped on nails twice.

This is a dumpster, a small one at that. So far we've used four of these.

This guy had to be in his 70's. Better yet, we saw him running back
down the mountain as we drove down. We cheered him on and then
wondered: What if he just really needed a ride and everyone was like
"Hey, good job!"

Earlier picture of Meredith and Jay was, initially an attempt to covertly take a picture of this guy (in the background) and then I notice them making gestures and wondering why I wasn't taking a picture, so I took their picture!
On our way down.

Beautiful day on the mountain

Megan with her medal. She's already been up here a while.
Slightly weird place to see runners wandering around.
And usually the hikers come up and look scornfully at the people
who drove up. This time WE were looking scornfully at them:"What, you mean you walked up?"

For some reason I just got half a blanket, which I'm clinging to.
Ever wonder if runners like these more because we're happy to
be resembling super-heros? (Oh, I'm sure its just because the
blankets are for warmth)
That's beer, right Meredith?

So this guy is like "You know I'm just going to get a
picture of the camera in front of your face?"

Yep, that's what he got.
